Fan Hydrodynamic Bearing (FDB)
High performance hydrodynamic bearing (FDB) fans are designed to take advantage of the impact of the effects of oil absorption. They are extremely reliable and generate far less noise and heat in operation than ball bearing fans. Bearing surface lubrication reduces friction and vibration, which also reduces overall fan power consumption. Thanks to smoother and quieter rotation and thanks to its quality of manufacture, this very reliable technology also increases the life of the fan.
When the shaft of the fan rotates, oil under high pressure spreads along the grooves of the bearing sleeve to create a thin layer of lubrication on the ball bearing. As speed increases, so does dynamic oil pressure. The fan shaft then lifts off the bearing to spin effortlessly. The chevron shape of the grooves allows the lubricant to be effectively channeled and thus avoid any leaks.
